About

I’m Jo Pawlowska (they/them), a visual artist and curator based in Iceland.

I work with installation, photography, and video. Much of my practice is deeply personal. My work deals with feelings, bodies, class and transness. I often explore how the body and images relate to one another. Collaboration plays an important role in many of my projects.

In 2025, I presented an exhibition with Sadie Cook at Reykjavik Art Museum (Hafnarhús), as part of a prestigious exhibition series D-salur dedicated to emerging artists shaping the local art scene.
The exhibition, titled Everything I Want to Tell You, consisted of over 2,000 images. This project is an ongoing collaboration.

In 2024 and 2026, I received the Artists’ Salary for six months from the Icelandic Ministry of Culture.

In 2021, I co-founded Hamraborg Festival, which I continue to co-curate. It is an annual artist-run festival with a site-specific and community-based focus. In 2026, I received the Icelandic Art Prize as part of the collective behind the Hamraborg Festival 2025 exhibition program, winning Best Group Show of the Year.

I am also part of the art duo Brokat Films, together with painter Sasa Lubinska (2016–present).

I actively participate in artist-run initiatives, including serving on the board of Samtök um listamannarekin.
I work as an independent curator, with a focus on visual art, performance art, new media, and photography.
